When I first saw this article it took me back for a second. I had forgotten how far women have really come, in the fact that they really talked about women like they were only there to look pretty while doing household chores in the 1950's. In that time period women were known for cooking, cleaning, and looking after the children all while trying to look their best. Men, on the other hand, went out to earn money for the family. The main point of the advertisement is the large lettering of the "thoughts" of the man about his wife. "So the harder a wife works, the cuter she looks!" This suggest that if women have energy, which they could get their "PEP" back from the pills, they would look more appealing to their husbands for working so hard, yet still looking their best. You can see the male dominise in the advertisement by how he is holding her and how she is looking up at him in admiration. Back in the 1950's this was exactly how women were seen, second to their husbands.
Now a days, you have stay at home dad's who do the household chores. Therefore, you would almost never see a advertisement like this in the modern day world. I highly dislike that they believed that women could do nothing else but stay at home because "they wouldn't be able to handle the working world." Women have proved so many people wrong. Women sometimes have higher paying jobs then their husbands, that would NEVER be accepted back when women were thought of as maids. Women coming this far is a HUGE accomplishment.
